Social Media Hijacks

Your superpower works online too

Social media can be fun and helpful, but it can also trick you. Some things you see online are fake, confusing, or even made to make you feel a certain way.

What to watch out for:

• Clickbait -  Eye-catching headlines or pictures that may not be true, used to grab your attention.

• Misinformation -  Information that is wrong, sometimes by accident.

• Disinformation -  Information that is made up on purpose to trick people.

• Tricky ads -  Not everything online is what it looks like.

Before you post or share, ask yourself:

Is this true? How do I know?
Could this hurt someone’s feelings?
Would I be okay if a trusted adult saw this?

AI and social media

AI can change photos and videos to make them look real, even when they are fake.

That makes it even more important to slow down, check where it came from, and ask a grown-up if something seems strange.

Stop. Check. Then Share.
